4,901 issues on 9,699 products: what three store checkups found.

We checked three real Shopify stores by hand, on their public pages only. Together they had 9,699 products and 4,901 issues: about one for every two products.

Store Products Issues
Store A 3,892 1,506
Store B 4,088 2,159
Store C 1,719 1,236
Together 9,699 4,901

The biggest gap: one photo

Products with only one photo: 1,062 in store A, 1,612 in store B and 622 in store C. Together, 3,296 of 9,699 products, about a third. A single photo can't show the product in use, its size or its details. That's the Genie Image Agent's job.

Thin and copied descriptions

Descriptions under 40 words: 329 in store A, 314 of them empty, 196 in store B and 277 in store C. Descriptions copied word for word from another product: 19, 20 and 128. That's the Genie Product Agent's job.

Titles

Titles too short or too long: 44, 46 and 55. Titles in capitals: none, 170 and 2. Titles shared by more than one product: 18, 40 and 8.

About one issue for every two products. Most of them are small, and that's why they pile up.

Collections and menus

Empty collections: 5, 44 and 32. In store C, 7 menu links led to empty collections. A menu built from what a store actually sells, like the one the Genie Mega Menu Agent publishes, only lists product types that have active products.

What search engines and AI assistants see

Images without alt text turned up in every sample we took: 28, 21 and 84. In store C, 104 products had no product type, which AI assistants use to understand what a product is, and 6 brands were spelled two ways. Product types are the Mega Menu Agent's job, and brand names the Genie Brands Agent's.

Trust and speed

Two of the three homepages failed a real-visitor speed test on phones. Two stores showed no reviews, and one showed no payment methods.

How we checked

By hand, on 8 October 2026, on public pages only. An issue is one item, like a product, a collection or a link, that fails a check, counted once. The store names stay private.
